For Sale: Violone in D by HillViolone in D, $17,000. Keith Hill Op. #457 (2013). Large, very full-sounding violone. After Maggini, but not a strict copy of any particular instrument. String length of 108 cm. Equipped with Peghed tuners. Figurehead is a commanding lion. Bottom rests on a round knob, with insertable wooden pegs of three different lengths to accommodate varying heights. Strung in gut (Gamut). Comes with two bows and a custom Messina gig bag. For Sale: 7-string Bass by Shortridge, 1990This 7 string bass viola da gamba was made by Linda Shortridge in 1990. It has a vibrating string length of 68.7 centimeters and “is in an excellent state of preservation” according to Sarah Peck, who restrung and appraised the instrument in 3/18. The neck ends in a peg-box and open scroll with two volutes. The instrument comes with a bass viola da gamba bow made by Louis Begin c. 1989. It has a snakewood stick, snakewood frog and ivory button. It weighs 75 grams. Also included is a shaped hard case that is in fair condition. Asking $8500. For Sale: Festooned Bass Viol by Myall"Festooned” bass viol by Norman Myall of England. This is a painstaking copy of an original by J. Rose in the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford. You may see the original at p. 12 of “The Identities of the Viols in the Ashmolean Museum” by Michael Fleming, here. Myall has copied the rich detail of the ornamented original. The instrument is a 6-string consort bass with a striking sound, thanks to a consultation with Robert Boothby of Fretwork, who himself owned and played a copy. For Sale: Treble Viol by KraftCopy by Judith Kraft, the American maker in Paris, of a French 18th-century treble. The original viol was found hanging on a peg in France in the late 20th century in excellent condition except that worms had eaten at the pegbox. Rather than replace the pegbox, the French authorities decided to keep the instrument intact to make copies. Ms. Kraft was selected to make this, the first copy, which was formerly owned by Tina Chancey. Price $7,500. click here for email address.

Approximately 67" long and 25" deep. 54 notes GG/BB–d3, with short octave and split sharps in the bass for fully chromatic range. Strung in brass.
