Mahillon: “Quinton ou Par-dessus de viole” (“On donnait le nom de quinton au par-dessus de viole lorsqu’il n’avait que cinq cordes.”); museum’s website: quinton; Snoeck: dessus; Jalovec: fünfsaitige Bratsche. Body corners verging on pointed. 2 pegs treble, 3 bass side. Tourin: end button (for tailgut). Website: bridge and tailpiece missing; “some of the pegs could be original.” Vannes gives date as 1758 (closer to the two violas of 1766 also in this museum). Extensive worm damage visible in photos.
