Mahillon (and website): viole bâtarde. Beuting 2007: dendrochronology gives date of 1485 for for youngest growth ring on table. Moens 1995: printed label almost certainly a 19th-C. fake. Table dendrochronology [by P. Klein] gives 1560, but applies only to 2 middle of 4 pieces, and they have open wormholes; table varnish doesn’t match back and ribs. 3-piece back with middle piece smallest (very unusual). 2-piece neck, fastened to body differently from most other supposed Cicilianos. True origin unguessable. Edmunds 1994: date 1560-80. Bragard 1968 and Awouters 1972 say it’s by Antonio (as per label), but Woodfield 1984, p. 130 and Pio 2011, pp. 95 and 111 say by Battista (surely because body outline and soundholes are like others containing his label). Awouters dimensions 60.1, 32.6/23.5/35.5, 11.8, 59.6. Museum’s website date: 1566/1581.
