Arched back, no overhanging edges; 2 pegs treble, 3 bass side. Mahillon (and museum’s website): quinton, 1701; but museum (A.Ceulemans) to TGM 6/19 says date more likely 1761, and photo shows top of 3rd digit is damaged (1701 is too early for a 5-string pardessus, unless “updated” during 18th C.). Vannes quotes label, says it’s “un pardessus de viole transformé en violon” (probably based on Jacquot: un pardessus de viole, transformé en violon, dos voûté, ouïes en C, existant chez Jandel à Liége en 1869 et portant l’étiquette imprimée suivante : «Nicolas-Louis-Gilbert, facteur d’instruments à Metz. 1701»); Vidal says shown at Exposition internationale, Paris, 1878. Two white circles at end of fingerboard (each about 1/3 its width). Tourin: end button. Online Généalogie des luthiers facteurs de Lorrain by René Pierre records maker’s given names as Louis Nicolas.
