2-piece table and back, latter with narrow black strip down centerline. Diamond-pattern table ornament, half hidden by current fingerboard; double perimeter purfling. Soundholes have bottom eyes (only). Ribs are shallow, but corners unpointed and edges do not overhang. Neck angled back, not original. Martius & Schulze 1991: falsely attributed to Busch. Sasse 1972: Diskant-Viola da Gamba; Heyde 1983: setup as treble viol dates from late 19C or early 20C; instrument made in 1st half of 18th C as a S. German viola d’amore, later converted to a viola; label does not belong to it.
