Comments:
VdGSA News: restored by Clarence Basterache (Westland, MI), 1973: new neck and head--had been a cello. Arched back, pointed corners, sloping shoulders: probably Italian.Herzog 2003: single purfling on front and back. Earlier repairs by Henry Knake, Chillicothe, OH, 1848; Franz Reppet, ibid., 1856; Harry Woods, Dayton, OH, 1915; George I. Norman, Clemson, SC, 1967. (Her info-sources = R. Portillo, W. Monical). Monical to TGM 9/15: “shows many indications of Brussels/Flemish origin and quite late.”
