Comments:

Table, neck, head, fingerboard, and tailpiece not original. Snoeck 1894: taille ou ténor de viole ou viole batarde; body length 36 cm, rib height 9 cm. Lütgendorff 1922: “von sonderbarem und ungewöhnlichem Modell, rot lackiert”; no information on the maker could be found in Rouen; says Jacquot suggested he may have been English. (This suggestion actually comes from Snoeck himself, whom Jacquot quotes, also about purchase in 1873.) Sachs 1922 dimensions 36.5, 16/-/21, 9, -. Otto & Adelmann 1975: many crack repairs; tailpiece new. Upper bout small in relation to lower. Back of ash.
